Earthquake Strikes Pakistan

Earthquake Hits Pakistan: A powerful earthquake shook Pakistan today, with tremors felt around 3:54 AM IST. The intensity of the quake was recorded at 5.2 on the Richter scale, prompting residents to evacuate their homes. The epicenter was located 150 kilometers deep in the northwest region of Pakistan. Previous Earthquakes in Pakistan

Reports indicate that Pakistan experienced two earthquakes the previous day as well. Between 6:53 PM and 7:00 PM, two tremors were felt, with the first measuring 4.4 and the second 3.2 on the Richter scale. These tremors were also felt in Karachi, with the epicenter located 38 kilometers deep. The fault line collision in the Landhi area is known to cause earthquakes in Pakistan. According to Amir Haider, a senior meteorologist at the Karachi Meteorological Center, there have been 21 earthquakes in Pakistan since June 1.

Pakistan's Seismic Activity

It is noteworthy that Pakistan is among the most seismically active countries. The region frequently experiences significant earthquakes that can be devastating. Pakistan lies at the convergence of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates. Cities such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are situated on these plates. These areas are located on the southern edge of the Eurasian plate, while Sindh, Punjab, POK, and Indian-administered Kashmir are positioned on the northwestern edge of the Indian tectonic plates. Earthquakes occur in these cities when the two plates collide.
