IPL Matches Set to Begin at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

IPL Matches in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium: The 2026 IPL season is scheduled to kick off on March 28. There was uncertainty regarding the hosting of matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, but the Karnataka State Cricket Association has now received official approval from the Karnataka government. The season opener will feature a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad at this venue.

According to reports, Santosh Menon, the secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, confirmed that an expert committee was satisfied with the infrastructural changes made at the venue after an inspection and mock demonstration on March 13. Following this, the government granted the KSCA permission to host IPL matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In a media release, the KSCA stated, “We are pleased to announce that today, a meeting was held at the Vidhana Soudha under the chairmanship of Karnataka's Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara, with representatives from the expert committee, KSCA, RCB, and NDA. During this meeting, the expert committee presented its report detailing the preparations made at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and the measures taken to ensure compliance with regulations.”

It is important to note that following RCB's victory last season, a tragic incident occurred outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals due to a stampede. This raised concerns about hosting matches at this venue. There were discussions about potentially relocating RCB's matches to another location. However, with the recent approval from the Karnataka government, all speculations have been put to rest.
