Jaspal Rana's Untimely Demise
Jaspal Rana's Passing: Renowned former world shooting champion and celebrated Indian marksman Jaspal Rana has passed away at the age of 49. He took his last breath on Friday at a hospital in Delhi, leaving the sports community in mourning. Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed their condolences following the news of his death.
According to reports, Jaspal Rana was serving as the high-performance coach for the Indian team participating in the ISF World Cup. After an impressive performance at the event, he was returning to New Delhi from Munich when he began to feel unwell. Upon landing at Delhi Airport, he was rushed to Max Hospital in Saket, where he unfortunately passed away during treatment on Friday morning.
Originally from Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand, Jaspal Rana had won gold medals for India at the World Shooting Championships and the Asian Games. He played a significant role in popularizing shooting in the country. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2002.
In their tributes on the social media platform X, PM Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed their profound sorrow over Rana's passing. PM Modi stated, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Jaspal Rana. His departure is a significant loss for Indian sports. He elevated the country's stature in shooting through his extraordinary achievements. As a mentor, his contributions were invaluable; he dedicated himself to nurturing and guiding young athletes. His commitment to excellence, discipline, and service to sports earned him immense respect. In this time of grief, my condolences are with his family, friends, and the entire sports community. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh remarked on X, “Jaspal was not only an exceptional athlete and coach but also a humble, kind-hearted individual. He played a pivotal role in making shooting a popular sport in India.”
